The surface of the head and thorax dull and with coarse punctation; the color deep yellowish red to brownish reddish

  The surface of the head and thorax shiny between small punctures; color red and deep-red, some darker specimens  often with faint blueish or purplish iridescent  reflections
Key to Males
1     The ocelli large with the distance between lateral and median ocelli slightly to considerably less than the maximum diameter of the lateral ocelli; the caudal end of the aedeagus with rounded inferior corner in side view
  The ocelli are smaller with the distance between the lateral and median ocelli about equal to or exceeding the maximum diameter of the lateral ocelli; the inferior caudal corner of the the aedeagus bearing a forked process
